On Contented Country Life

The weather has been gloriously appealing lately. There's enough chill in the evening to make for excellent snuggling-while-the-windows-are-open. And then during the day it warms up to that oh-so sweet temperature that makes you want to sit on the porch and sip iced tea.

Today I want to share five things I love about country living.

#1. Mending Fences
This most excellent weather means that weekends are spent outside. We will be acquiring our own cows (but no donkeys) soon, and David has been busy mending fences. I love the rustic look. My husband's hands protected by worn out gloves. His flannel jacket that he reserves for outdoor work.

#2. The Farm Truck
We don't drive Big Red that much. The gas mileage is awful. But last weekend David took the truck to town and purchased some cattle panels for our tiny barn. (The trailer is courtesy of our lovely neighbors.) I love that we have such a classic farm truck.

#3. Farm Dog
David has had a nearly constant companion out in the fields. Cody loves being outside, day or night.

#4. Fresh Produce
Those asparagus are not from our garden. I wish they were, as I've been consuming enough asparagus to feed a small army. But we are in the process of putting in a garden. We're in the planning part of the process, but still - it's in the works.

#5. Tomato Basil Bisque
This really isn't related to country living. Except that I have to drive more than an hour to get La Madeleine's version of my favorite soup.

When we lived in Fort Worth, La Madeleine's was one of the best places to go for a girl's night out. The French restaurant is quite girly. It was on a date with my mom that I first discovered their Tomato Basil Bisque.

One of our local (I use the term loosely - it is an hour away) grocery stores stocks this soup, and I'm thrilled! It is so good.

Happy Monday, y'all. What are you  loving right now?

A double link up, thanks! Fun to see your faves for country living ... I know I would love if I could say "local" was an hour away. I can walk to the grocery store, post office, bank, Starbucks, awesome thrift store, and more, from our house. Too much concrete around us. Anywhoo ... love your list! And cute pup!!

I love LaMadeleine's soup as well! Yum. LaMadeleine in mine and my husband's favorite breakfast spot too. We drive 1/2 an hour to get to the one in Fort Worth for breakfast.

Sitting on the porch sipped iced tea? Yes please. If I was sitting on my porch right now I'd be turning into ice! Looks like a lovely little piece of heaven.

Hey-hey friend!!! Isn't the weather just GLORIOUS?! I've been outside so much these past few days and I wish it could just stay like this FOREVER! Every thing is so green and lush and well, I just can't get enough of it! Let's soak it all up before it's 110 all summer! =) And I've been to La Madeleiene's several times too! Always when I'm in Dallas (on the very rare occasion that I'm in Dallas). Fabulous food, yummy desserts and great coffee! Wish we could meet there some time! It would only take me about 4 hours to get there. Hehe. Have a wonderful week!

Love ya!

Hey Hey!!! Maybe sometime we can meet up in Dallas for some scrumptious dining at La Madeleine's. :)

And yeah - I'm wishing this weather would last a while. Long while. :)

We barely had any winter weather this year. I'm NOT looking forward to summer.

The next time in Fort Worth I'm going to have to try La Madeleine's for breakfast - I've never been that early.

Aww, Cody is so cute. I bet he is the happiest dog around (I know my two beagles would LOVE to be out on a farm helping to mend fences :-) )
And fresh produce is reason enough for this girl to be jealous.

Love this post.

I LOVE La Madeline with all that is within me. And I love every one of these pictures. I'm a city girl but the country holds a small part of my heart too. It's so simple and nostalgic.
